Rules
- See the dark line across the middle of the board all dice must completely cross that line. If a die does not cross that line it counts as a throw but is removed and set to the side.
- The first player rolls (slides or flicks) one die off the landing disc. The landing disc is the raised area between the scoreboards. The die is thrown toward the scoring areas. The die must always make contact with the landing disc first.
- At this point the first players die is now resting on one of the scoring levels or has tumbled of the board and is not in play.
- The next player rolls his die off the landing disc with the options of advancing his own die into scoring position or bumping an opponent’s die from the board.
- A player may bump more than one dice or may bump one of his own die to improve his scoring position.
- Play continues with each player alternating rolls until all four dice of each player has been rolled.
- At this point this point the score is tallied.
- Score is tallied as follows. Example: A die which shows a 4, resting on scoring level 3(3 x dice) would equal 12. The rest of your dice remaining on the board are added in the same manner. The total of your dice is your score for the quarter.
- All players have totaled their dice and may write their score on the score boards (using DRY ERASE MARKERS ONLY).
- You are now ready to start the second quarter. The player with the highest total score at the end of the prior quarter goes first and the next highest second and so on. If two or more players have the same score then the order of play reverts back to the prior quarter.
- Play continues until four quarters have been completed. At this point the final score is tallied and the highest score is the winner. If two or more players are tied at the end of regulation then an overtime round is played to determine the winner ( involving the players that are tied only!)
Playing Options
- Team Play - Four players two Teams. One team uses red and green dice while the other uses the white and black. Use the same rules except you combine red and the green score and the black and white score at the end of the round. Each team decides who goes first and last for their team. Four players but only two scores.
- One Double Dice - Two player game. Play with the same rules as original game. The big difference is each player uses an extra dice of a different color.
Example: Player one has 4 white dice and one black die.
: Player Two has 4 red dice and one green die.
The black and green dice are the double value dice. Throw these dice at any point
In the round, and if the die says 5 make it a 10 and then multiply by the level like
always.
- Offense and Defensive Dice - This is a two person game. Each player has 8 dice
Example: Player one has 4 white and 4 black dice.
- White is player one’s offensive dice, black is player one’s defensive
dice.
- Player two has 4 green and 4 red dice.
- Green is player two’s offensive dice, red is player two’s defensive
dice.
Each player throws all 8 dice each round. The big difference is you only add up
your offensive dice. The defensive dice on the game board have no value. The defensive dice are used just to knock off opponents dice or leave as a block.
Game Recommendations
To prepare your Tumblin-Dice game for play:
-
Spray furniture polish (Pledge) on a paper towel then apply to the top two levels of the game board(small landing disc and the largest flat surface 0 x dice and 1 x dice level). You want the dice to slide easily along the main level. Anytime the dice start to stick re-apply furniture polish as needed.
We also advise throwing a large towel under the game during play to slow the dice that go off the end of the game board
These recommendations can be found under the hints section in the instruction booklet.
Frequently Asked Questions
- This occurs about one in 5,000 throws. What if a dice lands on top of another dice? The top dice takes control of the bottom dice.
Example: A red 5 die lands on top of a white 3 die on the 3 X level. Scoring goes
as follows, Red gets the 5 plus the 3 to make 8 and then multiply by
3 for the level the dice are on. The result would be 24 for red 0 for white.
This happens so little the player who pulls it off deserves the nice
reward.
- What if a dice leans on existing dice that is off the board? The leaning dice has no value. The thought here is that the leaning dice would have fallen off without the dice under it. Always remember to clear away dice from edge of the game. This will eliminate this controversy.
- What is the correct way to throw the dice?
- You can roll the dice
- You can flick the dice
- You can slide the dice
We find sliding the dice is the best way to control speed and accuracy. As long as the die makes contact with the landing disc it is good throw.
